Introduction

The following article gives a comprehensive summary of an ingenious video tutorial by renowned makeup artist, Michelle Phan. Michelle delves into her coveted personal makeup routine to create a naturally glowing and radiant look. This step-by-step guide is designed to assist those who desire to attain that effortless, “no-makeup” makeup look that’s perfect for any occasion.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Start with a Clean Canvas: Michelle emphasizes beginning with a clean and moisturized face. Using her favorite cleanser, she gently removes any oil or dirt from her skin.

2. Base First: Using a lightweight foundation or a BB cream, she applies an even layer all over her face, buffing it into her skin with a foundation brush.

3. Highlight: For a natural glow, she applies a liquid highlighter on the high points of her face, i.e., cheekbones, brow bone, and nose bridge.

4. Contour: Using a shade slightly darker than her skin tone, Michelle artistically contours alongside her nose and under her cheekbones which provide subtle depth to her features.

5. Eyeshadow: Natural hued eyeshadows are used for that “barely there” look. She layers different shades for a multidimensional effect.

6. Eyelashes: She defines her eyes by applying mascara on both the upper and lower lashes.

7. Lips: Michelle concludes her routine by dabbing on a touch of lip tint to achieve the perfect natural pout.

Key Tips and Advice

Michelle’s advice for attaining a flawless natural look is focusing on enhancing one’s existing features rather than changing them. She recommends always starting with a good skincare routine since the healthiest skin makes the best base for any makeup. Lastly, she stresses the importance of blending all products well, as it is the key to achieving a seamless, natural look.

Conclusion

Michelle’s video tutorial offers a refreshing take on the ‘less is more’ beauty concept. She reinforces the idea that a natural look is not about hiding features but celebrating and enhancing them. Her approach encourages everyone to deeply appreciate their original beauty.

Product and Tool Listing

1. Foundation: A lightweight formula applies evenly for a natural finish.
2. Liquid Highlighter: Adds a gentle glow to the high points of the face.
3. Contour Product: A slightly darker shade than the base to provide subtle definition.
4. Eyeshadows: Earth-toned palette for a multi-dimensional, natural look.
5. Mascara: Provides definition and volume to the lashes for wide awake eyes.
6. Lip Tint: A soft-hued tint to complete a natural and fresh look.

This guide aims to foster inspiration and make the art of makeup more accessible and enjoyable to makeup enthusiasts at all levels. As Michelle emphasizes, the ultimate goal of makeup should be to feel more comfortable in one’s skin, not to adhere to other people’s beauty standards.

Thank you, Caroline, for your much-needed video. Growing up in Australia and diving on the left side of the road like our Big Cousins, the Brits, I, too, have much of my pigmentation on the right side of my face and also my hand! Your recent videos showed how much your pigmentation and skin texture has improved. You may have mentioned in this video that you were having laser treatment. I have pigmentation and some sun spots from childhood, playing in the sunshine and swimming at the beach with little to no sun protection. My Mum was a sun worshipper, so I often had a heat stroke on more than one occasion. I now plaster on the SPF 50 plus every day, as I do for my son. A quarter of a teaspoon for my face and neck.
I'd like to know what type of laser treatment you had and what other pigment-fading treatments you tried. They really have worked a treat. Is that okay to ask? Could you do a skincare routine video? Many of us would be interested. I now have pale olive skin and use plenty of sun protection. I have so much trouble concealing my sun spots, pigmentation, and blueish purple under the eye area. I have tried some colour correctors but like an orange one, which is too dark and green for the red areas on my face. I can not get the hang of it. This is why this video is so brilliant. You have taught me so much in such a short time. My current foundation is too sheer. To help me. Being over 40 and in the throes of perimenopause, my skin has changed. It is much drier and more sensitive than it once was. So I opted for more sheer, less drying foundations and tried to spot conceal with little success. With your help, I can now have a better chance at success. So thank you x

Hello!! I love your channel, though I've barely ever commented. I am hoping you can please help me. I have quite fair skin, and a horrible age spot right in the middle of my forehead! I've tried light blue, and it only darkens it. I've tried peach, lavender, pink, and every concealer under the sun. Nothing stays put. It's not only the color but the texture is different too. Can you PLEASE recommend something? And would I apply it before or after foundation? THANK YOU❤

Thanks Caroline!. I keep trying different concealers and do have the max and still colour correctors, I’ve forgot to use them in ages!!, you’ve kindly reminded me! X❤

Meant to ask, is it fair to say you should generally use cool toned makeup for warm undertoned skin (and vice versa) to neutralize skin? I always get confused with this because it seems when you Google it, the advice is to use cool for cool and warm for warm, but it seems with the color correction theory, it’s sort of the opposite? Am I missing the obvious point? 😂

That color wheel is sold out. I have rosacea. I really wanted that. I'll keep trying. That was fun! Watched twice, so hopefully I'll remember.☺

I had a delay in checking this video out and am so excited to have finally watched. Such such helpful tips, thank you! I am constantly curious about my undertones as I seem to have a mix (based on the tests I’ve read online like the color of your veins or if you look better in gold or silver jewelry). This really helps break down the tones of the face bit by bit and understanding the theory of opposite color neutralization is pretty revelatory! Loved this so much. Can’t wait to try! The most I’ve done to date is use Sigma under eye corrector before my concealer which I quite like but I do run into the problem of the combo creasing in my fine lines which I HATE. Talk about looking worse rather than better! Also love matcha too! Thanks for the tip on your sweetener. Sounds lovely and nutritious too. I usually do a blend of half water half steamed almond or oat milk and find the sweetener of the milk does the trick but will sometimes add a drop of natural sweetener like honey or maple syrup. Can I ask why you are not using honey at the moment? Thanks again for the consistent great content, Caroline! Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend so far.

Dear Caroline. I looked around on your channel but I can't find anything on two topics. First, massage to use for puffy eyes . If you have one can you point me to it?
The second topic I am interested in is, spider veins. Not so much on the face, but also on the legs. Being 63 years old I have them popping up faster. I tried injection, but more came to the funeral. Can they do it with lasers and not have to wear those stupid support hose for a month? Thanks.

Great tutorial, the transformation with the colour correction is so effective. Since i started using Dr Jart green tiger grass all over my face, I find that a little bronzer and blush is all I need. Hardly ever use foundation. P. S.My pigmentation is on my left side of face (and forearm😢

I used to use a yellow based concealer but found by accident that pink works much better for under eyes.

Thank you, thank you, Caroline for this video!! It demystified color correcting for me! I have fair skin with cool undertones. I realize, from watching this video, that I'm likely using too dark, too warm, and too creamy of a corrector for me, as well as using too much. No wonder it doesn't seem to be quite right! LOL 😂 🤣

I’m in Canada, driving on the left, so now it makes perfect sense why I have more “sun spots” or hyperpigmentation on the left side of my face 🤷‍♀️

That was so interesting Caroline, I’m definitely going to try that. I’ve never tried Matcha tea but interested to know what the flavour is like.

Erborian CC correctors are great as an all over colour corrector to wear alone or under makeup plus there is a Dull correct that gives a lovely healthier glow, the Red Correct and a variety of other tints. They do mini versions which is helpful as it might be a bit of trial and error to find the colour and product consistency you like best as there are so many options and products. Space NK and other stores carry it so you could try in person too. Personally I love the CC range as it’s very light as I don’t wear foundation finding it too heavy, topping up areas with concealer as needed.

Such a great video as I bought a colour corrector palette ages back but never dared use it as I honestly didnt know what the hell to do with it….i bought it because some makeup person suggested it. This is going to be so helpful. Thanks Caroline! Ive never even tried Matcha but after this I might need to give it a bash. Have a great week xx
